Vibrant Health Advocates Aberdeen Branch runs on the commitment of people who believe health equity matters. Whether you have professional skills to offer, time to give, or resources to contribute, there is a meaningful role for you here. We are a small organisation with an outsized impact, and every person who joins us — as a volunteer advocate, a corporate partner, or a regular donor — directly extends our ability to stand beside someone who needs us.
We train and support volunteer health advocates through a structured programme accredited by the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance. You do not need a clinical background — you need empathy, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Our training covers NHS Scotland structures, advocacy principles, communication skills, and safeguarding. Training is fully funded by us — there is no cost to you. Commitments start at around four hours per week.
Every pound we receive goes towards keeping our services free and accessible to the people who need them most. A regular gift of any size helps us plan with confidence and reach more people across Grampian.
As a Scottish registered charity, donations from UK taxpayers can be gift-aided, meaning we can claim an additional 25p for every pound you give — at no extra cost to you. We publish full annual accounts so you can see exactly where your money goes.
We welcome partnerships with Aberdeen businesses, universities, and NHS teams who share our commitment to health equity. From workplace health literacy talks to sponsored community events, there are many ways to work together.
Past partners have sponsored our community drop-in programme, funded bespoke health literacy resources, and seconded staff to work alongside our team. If you have an idea for how we might work together, we would love to hear it.
Aberdeen has some of the highest rates of social isolation among over-65s in the north-east of Scotland, and many of our city's most deprived communities experience health outcomes that are starkly worse than those just a few miles away. These are not inevitable differences — they are the product of structural inequality, and they can be changed.
Vibrant Health Advocates Aberdeen Branch has shown that trained, trusted advocates can genuinely shift those outcomes: clients feel heard, understand their options, and engage more consistently with the care they need. But we can only reach so many people with our current capacity. Every new volunteer, every donation, every partnership stretches what we can do.
When you get involved with us, you are not writing a cheque into a void. You are standing behind a specific person — an elderly man facing a cancer diagnosis alone, a young mother who does not know she can ask for an interpreter, a care leaver with no one to translate what the specialist just said. You are making a direct, measurable difference to someone's life in Aberdeen or Grampian.
